BOIPEBAINDEPENDENT ISLAND GUIDE
VILLAGES · COMMUNITIES

Boipeba's villages

Every corner of the island has its own rhythm.

Four communities, not a single paved road

Velha Boipeba

The main village, at the mouth of the Rio do Inferno by Boca da Barra beach. Boats arrive here, and it has most of the guesthouses (pousadas), restaurants and shops; the tractor-bus and quad bikes leave from here.

Moreré

A fishing village on the beach of the same name, quieter than Velha Boipeba. Under an hour's walk along the beach or about 20 min by tractor-bus inland.

Monte Alegre

A small settlement in the island's interior, on the overland route between the village and São Sebastião, with patches of Atlantic Forest.

São Sebastião (Cova da Onça)

A fishing community at the southern tip, facing Cova da Onça. A common stop on the round-the-island tour.

Getting around

On foot along the beach, by tractor-bus (a trailer pulled by a tractor — the cheapest option, with regular departures from the "Ponto do Trator" behind the village), by quad bike (fixed fares) or by boat. Reference prices from our sources: tractor R$ 13 and quad bike to Moreré R$ 25 (1 person) — data from Dec 2022, probably out of date.
